You start to think about college when you are ready. There is no right or wrong time and there is no such thing as too early or too late to begin. The college planning process begins with a balanced high school schedule. Utilizing the time spent in high school to learn about yourself academically, socially and emotionally. Reflecting along the way about your experiences and interests. For some students that could be 9th grade, for some that could be 12th grade. For other students, the time may not be right until they have spent time working after high school. I am here when you are ready to begin the journey.
The short answer is NO, you do not need to know your major before applying to college.The first year of college usually consists of general education credits allowing students to explore their options. It is important to note that some colleges or universities require you to declare a major for direct entry in their programs such as Nursing or Engineering. However, that is not the case for all schools.
Colleges offer undergraduate degrees and Universities offer both undergraduate degrees and graduate degrees. You must complete an undergraduate degree before moving onto a graduate degree. Many people, like myself, will use the term college as a generic term for post secondary education
